a year agoAbsolute Disaster! I ordered the salmon mushroom rice and asparagus. First he came back and advised they were out of mushroom rice. Bear in mind it’s 6:15 on a Saturday with only one other table of 2…. I was ok with the regular rice. After waiting 30min they came out with our food, my husband’s fried cat fish and chicken looked great… My salmon looked like it was put in a panini press it was so flat, he then indicated they were out of regular rice (how could they be out of white rice when it’s part of the dish!) the asparagus I didn’t even look at since it was wrapped in foil. He had nothing to say about the state of my meal or apologize.. we left with husbands meal and went over to Pita Alley for real salmon and rice!

a year agoThe waitress was kind and welcoming. We were the only table at the time, and didn't get our food for a long time. We ended up having to get our food to go in order to make it back to an event on time. There was a long hair in one of our drinks, but I don't hold that against them, as sometimes these things just happen. The tables, I think, were clean. The material used on the tables made it feel sticky and gummy, but I think this is just the material itself. The food was okay. The members of our group who got the burger said it was fine. I personally got a Philly, which was delicious. The most frustrating thing was the wait, which also just happens sometimes. The waitress said something about a server having called off. Overall, if I'm in the area again, I may give it another shot.

a year agoFood was absolutely amazing! We got the lamb chops and salmon and both plates were delicious. They were out of most appetizers and sides unfortunately, but we did come later in the evening. Service was very casual, but the man who served us was nice and apologetic about them being out of most items on the menu. We were seated quickly, but food did take a while despite us being the only ones in the restaurant. We’ll definitely be back to try more though!

Edited a year agoBefore I review a place, I've decided to eat there 3-5 times, on different days over a long span of time, so I'm not just posting a review based on a good or bad day. Anyone has those. I went at least 4 random times spread out over last Summer or Fall/This Winter. Separated this into "good", "irritating", and "not good". The good/great: There must be good/experienced cooks there with some culinary skill. Well-crafted meals you cannot get anywhere else nearby or that would cost 2x the price at a more formal place, and excellent wings (might be the best traditional wings in town). The mildly-irritating: Tables are covered in a sort of rubber grip material that, if its your first time there is easily mistaken at first for something sticky/dirty. 3 out of 4 times, the soda was flat and low on ice. The not good: While I like everything I've had there, my order has been incorrect 100% of the time, and I asked only for one slight modification all 4 times. (You know... add cheese ----- switch a side, or whatever. Simple stuff) I do this once per visit, with one simple switch or change. Nothing complex. Food was still good but wrong each time. I still ate it. Wouldn't have had time for them to remake it. I've waited 3 of the 4 times to be acknowledged in a nearly empty restaurant for 15-20 minutes, but I stuck it out because the food was good, even if not correct. This last time was slightly better on that issue. Only 10 minutes before a greeting. Table service is sporadic with some customers getting much attention and others, none. At no point did wait staff ask me how everything was or if I needed anything else. Basic restaurant service etiquette. I had to wave for attention, which I don't do normally. That was my experience there all 4 times. Frankly I sincerely hope they succeed due to good food quality. I don't have time for the hassle of complaining then waiting for a replacement order. Not a huge deal. I'd like to think they'd have solved it if I asked, but I didn't. Not their fault on that count. I just didn't have another 30 min to find out. I still tip 20%+ and leave without any disputes. I just eat what I can, and go. Overall, 4 stars for food, 0.5 or 1 star at best for service. 2-to-2.5 star average, which is weird for a place with good food. Rounded generously up to a 3. I'll try again in a month or 3, to see what's changed, hopefully post a better review, and to get some of those great wings or to try the lamb. That'll be my last try. At that point, the service will overshadow the food.

a year agoMy husband and I stopped in there while we were in Carbondale and I’m so glad we did. We dined in, the waitress was attentive and the food was absolutely delicious. I knew immediately the food was going to have some serious SOUL seasoning and it did. It’s worth every penny don’t cheat yourself people stop in and get you some good ole school, eating at your grandma house food!!

a year agoI ordered the caramel cake hoping for a Chicago style dessert. I think I got care a Mel cake which I've often had south of St. Louis. I didn't taste it, and gave it to my friend instead. He said if he had 10 more pieces he would have eaten it. He praised the density of the cake, which quite frankly is often sacrificed in Chicago by letting do all the heavy lifting. He said the flavor was bold and fresh. The staff were what I like to call "service ready". Attending quickly to customers. The place was empty when I went in around 6pm on a Sunday. This suggest to me that for all you folks with a sweet tooth this might be a nice late Sunday afternoon gathering spot. Good luck, I hope you make it.

2 years agoThe atmosphere was great. I had the fried fish dinner, the fish was very crispy and crunchy. The cabbage was nice and Spicy. The baked potato was well done and flaked easily, it was served with a nice herb butter. Other toppings on request.
